National Canadian Film Day (#CanFilmDay) is a massive, coast-to-coast-to-coast salute to Canadian cinema! “FILMS THAT A.I. COULD NEVER MAKE” of Canadian Films.

To celebrate 1Ith year of NCFD and the 28th year of VAFF, we are hosting the screening of “Ru” of Director, Charles-Olivier Michaud and Writer Kim Thúy, Charles-Olivier Michaud, Jacques Davidts partnering with National Canadian Film Day and REEL CANADA and our community partners Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) ExplorAsian, South East Asian Culture and Heritage Society (SEACHS) and Vietnamese Professionals Association of BC (VPABC).

RU | Based on the novel by Kim Thúy

After a perilous journey across the pacific, a family of Vietnamese refugees settles in Montreal, in the hopes of starting a new life. Through a series of flashbacks, the whole picture of their story comes into view, as seen by the youngest family member, Tinh (Djandji), who is still processing the trauma of what they left behind, and struggling with her new setting and language.

General Admission refers to seating area that are not assigned or reserved, and are occupied on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brilliantly adapted from Kim Thúy’s Governor General Award-winning novel of the same name, this compassionate story of resilience in the face of adversity is stunningly captured and deeply moving.
