Overview

Since its founding in 1995 and debut in 1997, the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) has stood as Canada’s longest-running Asian film festival and the largest racialized film event in Western Canada. Every November, VAFF transforms the cinematic landscape into a vibrant, hybrid cultural hub—bringing thousands together in-person and online to experience the true depth, diversity, and complexity of the Asian diaspora.

VAFF is more than an annual festival; it is a movement. We empower Asian Canadian creators, actors, and filmmakers to take the mic, own their narratives, and redefine representation both on screen and behind the camera.

Driven by a passionate community of volunteers, donors, and industry trailblazers, our impact extends far beyond the screen through year-round programming:

  • Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM): The ultimate high-stakes launchpad for emerging filmmaking talent.
  • VAFF Industry & Film Fund: Bridging the gap for creators through the Industry Insight Series, Filmmaker Talks, and direct funding—connecting the next generation of storytellers with the resources they need to thrive.
  • Elimin8Hate: VAFF’s advocacy arm, actively dismantling anti-Asian racism through media and social action.
